This job generally requires the ability to do the following work:

  • Clinical and Counseling Psychologists
    • Provide assessment and recommendations for appropriate treatments
    • Diagnose and treat various mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders
    • Review relevant literature, synthesize evidence-based materials, and translate complex behavioral health concepts
    • Conduct case management and other administrative tasks as needed
    • Provide referral services to outside therapists, clinics, and treatment facilities
    • Participate in off-hours call rotation
  • School Psychologists
    • Assess, score assessments, and attend eligible/individualized education program (IEP) meetings
    • Plan and provide clear and intentional-focused instruction based on individual student IEP goals using state standards, subject matter content, and district curriculum
    • Consult with staff and parents, making recommendations for developmentally appropriate services and strategies to assist in improving student achievement
    • Act as a liaison with community agencies that provide services to children
    • Provide behavior consultation for students by designing and implementing measurable behavior interventions
    • Provide psychological services as related service per student's IEP
  • Industrial-Organizational Psychologists
    • Establish effective client relationships to provide optimal client solutions
    • Manage the development of innovative human capital research projects
    • Identify opportunities for efficiencies in the work process and innovative approaches to completing the scope of work

Clinical and counseling psychologists interview patients; perform diagnostic tests; and give individual, family, and group psychotherapy. They help people understand and manage their problems by identifying their strengths and available helpful resources.

School psychologists counsel students who have education or developmental disorders through testing and assessing the student, and counseling the student and their family. the psychologist generally evaluates a student's performance and then designs a performance plan to assist the student in learning and advancing in the classroom.

Industrial-organizational psychologists apply psychological principles and research methods to improve the quality of work-life, including work productivity, management, and employee morale.

Important Facts

  • No mandatory subject in Class XII.
  • Most of the institutes for post-graduation require bachelors in any field or Psychology/Applied Psychology or/and related subjects.
  • For Lectureship in Psychology/Applied Psychology, National Educational Test (NET) or Ph.D. is mandatory.
  • Most colleges have eligibility criteria of a minimum of 60% aggregate marks in Class XII.
